<image:title>Work - Gupp Chup Gapp (2019) - Format: Forum Theatre | Cause: Child Sexual Abuse | Project: The Rakshin Project Year: 2019</image:title>
<image:caption>In an adaptation of ‘45/35/55’, four sisters with different temperaments, dreams and ideologies are forced to live under one roof for a year if they want to benefit from their dead mother’s property and wealth. As diehard beliefs hilariously collide with age-old habits, they enter into a war zone where neither of them will pay for the daily expenses of the house. As a result, they hit upon the idea of bringing a tenant into the house. One outside force enters their lives like a whirlwind blowing away cobwebs of manipulative habits, patterns, beliefs, and ideologies, nurtured over a lifetime; bringing out their vulnerabilities and forcing them to be honest with each other. Gupp Chup Gapp renders an endearing and entertaining canvas for burning issues of gender equality, sexual abuse, the need for self-reliance and an empathetic attitude towards other human beings. The play is a juxtaposition of the serious and the mundane; the marvellous and the absurd performed and supported by the IAS Officers’ Wives.</image:caption>

<image:caption>‘Sometimes it takes as long as fifty years for a rape survivor to speak up, says a gender activist.’ In 45”35”55”, it takes 25 years. Two ageing sisters steeped in their routines, who come into the property and decide to live together, under one roof after 25 years are in for a life-changing revelation. As diehard beliefs collide with age-old habits, they enter what is called a war zone — yet survival instinct drives them together and they finally agree to bring in a tenant, a young career woman, who enters their lives like a whirlwind, blowing away cobwebs of manipulative habits, patterns, beliefs, ideologies, nurtured over a lifetime; bringing out their vulnerabilities, forcing them to be honest and open. The endearing and funny tale that hilariously skims the surface of everyday interactions dives into the depths of heart-wrenching events, covered, and denied for 25 years. 25 years of concealing the trauma and violence of gang rape.</image:caption>

<image:caption>As seekers, we live life searching for our truth. Very often in families, unspoken, unexpressed assumptions become the foundation of these truths. Truths that are never expressed; but which inform all our actions and reactions, until we drift away into cages of our own making; each one of us wrapped in our denials, silences, shame and fear of stigma. Set within one triggering event, Ghat Ghat mein Panchi Bolta Hai is a collection of letters between two families, three generations and nine characters, coming apart at their seams and spiralling to the desperation of questions, wanting to discover their truth. Exploring, examining, reflecting, musing; each one sitting on the high seat of judgement, searching for the right side of wrong.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Jug Jug Jiyo is the story of the lives of two childhood friends, widows for all appearances, living and sharing a small house in a small town. Samyukta and Simran. Samyukta runs a morgue, and Simran runs her son’s life. Samyukta’s daughter Sia and Simran’s son Siraj, childhood sweethearts, in a live-in relationship unknown to their mothers, are visiting their mothers from Mumbai on the night the play opens. As the night unfolds, one small confrontation between Sia and Siraj starts unravelling the lives of the two women across the last four decades, and soon only the shards of broken relationships litter the stage. When it seems as if there is no resolution to this devastation, love, and hope raise their tiny heads tentatively, and invite trust back into the fold. Jug Jug Jiyo, is a story that unfolds over one night and unravels dark secrets hidden for over three decades. Jug Jug Jiyo is a story that shapes the future for all unborn girls; a story about decisions taken by these two women in the past, and in the present.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Jailbirds is a hard-hitting, provocative and confronting story that exposes the worst form of inequality, sexual violence in a deliberate, multi-layered, and creative manner. It is a story of a woman who has endured marital rape and witnessed sexual abuse within her marriage. Conflicting realities move from denial and confusion to admission, acceptance, and finally freedom, as the mother and daughter rewrite their experience of a sexually violent history. Anupa, the mother, has arrived near the end of her 14-year jail sentence for killing her abusive husband. In all this time Amrita, the daughter, has never paid her a visit. An accidental discovery finally propels Amrita towards meeting her mother in jail. For mother and daughter, the challenge of meanings involves reconciling history with versions of what, for each, is a life-changing truth.</image:caption>

After 1.5 Years of intensive workshops, 9 survivors of gender-based violence performed their own stories on stage. Reliving the disturbing past was not easy. But as one of the survivors who performed her story puts it, “I will continue to revisit my memories of fear. An outcome of the collective expertise of thought leaders with diverse domain strengths pooled towards a common agenda on how school children can become influencers to encourage ‘responsible road behaviour’ for self, others, and society. Focusing on awareness and education, the program used original tools, methods, and experts to engage with students. An innovation initiative was the Champions for Change project which was launched. The Champions for Change used project-based learning methods for students to apply their road safety education to their real-life and make a difference to the road safety scenario around their school.</image:caption>

Using skilful creative methods, participants were encouraged to become co-explorers, question internalized norms, engage in a process of self-expression, and make critical choices. A unique co-production between jail inmates and college students was mounted in the jail in December 2004. The project also gave way to a theatrical play ‘Jailbirds’ which explored the journey of a woman near the end of her 14-year jail term for killing her abusive husband.</image:caption>

<image:title>Gender Projects - Lakhnu Village (2017) - Format: Social Art Intervention | Cause: WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) | Client: Curtin University | Year: 2017</image:title>
<image:caption>Through a Social Arts for Behaviour Change project at Lakhnu Village, Uttar Pradesh, we produced a theatrical event that would reinforce aspects of sanitation and health behaviour to children and villagers. This was a large undertaking that involved Curtin University, BNCA College Pune and Lakhnu village students to improve sanitation and health . In a very short time, we moulded students without theatre training into a group that was very effective in conveying WASH behaviours to villagers.</image:caption>
